As those wise travellers
Bent the knee before that wide-eyed curious child,
Worshipping the tiny new king,
I wonder what words they used.
When you were so new,
So fresh to this world,
Did they recite ancient psalms,
Or pray in their own flawed way?
Perhaps they knelt in silence,
No words enough, no phrases able to captureĀ
The reality of this encounter.
And however we are today,
Help us to pray with reality,
Whether using those ancient words
Or using our own faltering words,
Or just sitting in silence,
May we know that we can worship you,
However flawed we may be.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
