Three Easter Readings

Easter Blessing

May the one who brought life to the universe,
And hope to the struggling people of his day,
Bring you strength, kindness and purpose this Easter time.
May the one who brought wide eyes
And astonished smiles on that resurrection morning,
Bring us comfort, wonder and joy to help us today.

The Morning of Mystery and Faith

The tomb waits, open wide,
Like a mouth full of joy and wonder,
Calling out to the world entire,
Waiting for the faithful who will come quietly
Expecting trouble and heartache,
Courageous women stepping tenderly through the dawn
To offer their worship and honour their lost saviour,
Only to discover he is not lying still in that place of tears.
He is in fact waiting in the messy undergrowth,
To bring smiles and comfort and startled laughter.
Waiting for the mystery of resurrection,
To rekindle their universe and revive their future.
The mouth of the tomb lies open,
Calling to the world, waiting for us,
With the kind of hope unavailable anywhere else.

The Gardener

A shadowed figured waits in the bushes of dawn,
when light struggles to shoo the darkness.
Calm, focused, forever patient.
He sees us running back and forth,
wondering about the empty tombs of our life,
confused and bedraggled in our disappointment and fear.
Daring to hope that something has changed
but burdened by anxiety too. Believing and doubting.
So this gardener waits, and from time to time
steps out of the shadows with warmth and a smile,
calling our name and waiting for the scales to fall from our eyes,
as we mistake him for someone else.
