This film is an incredible true story about keeping going. When Raynor Wynn and her husband Moth lose their house, they do the unexpected. With very little money and nothing else ahead of them they decide to walk – 600 miles along the South West coast path. Setting off they encounter bad weather, weariness, disappointment and opposition. But they also encounter unexpected encouragements and moments of great beauty. When they slip into a shop to see if they can afford a pasty they are told the place is closing. But when the kind-hearted young woman behind the counter sees their plight she tells them quietly to wait outside, and then brings them a bag of the leftover pasties for free.
Life is full of the unexpected. Sometimes it seems to ambush us with its difficulties, and at other times we are surprised by joy. In Philippians chapter 3 verse 14 Paul writes about keeping going in the race of life, straining to finish it, and often this race is more like a long walk on rugged coast path. It can feel up and down, rocky and windswept, at times. I often struggle myself with life and anxiety. And like Raynor and Moth, we need the help of each other. I often give out encouragement cards when I speak, so folks can keep them or pass them onto others. Perhaps you know of someone who would value an encouraging text, or email, or call, something to help them keep going on the rugged path of life. Sometimes even just a smile and a hello can change everything when we feel like giving up. ‘Be kind to one another, tender-hearted and forgiving…’ Paul wrote in Ephesians 4 v 32, reminding us of the incredible kindness and love God has for us. It’s a great nudge to keep going today.
