We read of great themes of love and protection,
In the psalms of David and others,
But woven amongst the lines of hope and faith,
There are pitfalls of prayers for vengeance.
Embarrassing prose begging for violence and reprisals,
Bitter and brutally honest cries full of fear and fury.
The writers were unafraid to bring everything to God,
Fearful of their enemies they needed His help.
Their situations were at times full of threat and terror,
And if God would not intervene, who would?
They knew that their Creator was all they had,
They needed him for care, provision, identity and protection.
And so their songs come down the ages to us,
Reminders that we can bring everything to God.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
