Jesus wakes and stirs. He yawns and even his jaw feels tired. His body is stiff and slow to respond. His head spins with the memories, the rocks and snakes, the dry heat, the thirst. The cold of those long nights. Slowly he sits up. He senses the strength returning. He rubs the gluey sleep from his eyes, and sucks in the sweet cool air. He is no longer alone. He can hear his mother singing softly to herself, in the background. He loves being around people, forty days was a long time to be alone. He stands and wobbles a little as he regains his balance. With each step he takes he feels a tad stronger. He smells the fresh bread, baked warm in the house here. At last, food! He reaches for the cool, fresh water on the table and takes a long drink. The desert demanded so much of him, the battle with the elements and with the presence of the enemy nearly took all he had. But it prepared him too, made him ready for his life of strong and humble service. Grace and truth surges through him now. He is ready to bring the kingdom.
