The Garden

In a brand new garden, in a bright new wood,
A snake came along and the snake wasn’t good.
He had a sneaky plan and a cunning one too,
To mess up the world for me and you.

In a brand new garden, in a bright new wood,
Lived a woman and a man, they were really good.
They could jump and dance, create and play,
And life was wonderful every day.

The man and the woman took a walk through the wood,
The snake came along and the snake wasn’t good.
He hissed at the people saying, ‘Come this way,
Follow me for a much better day.’

In a brand new garden, in a bright new wood,
There was one special tree that looked so good.
There were trees aplenty and fruit so much,
And only the one that folk couldn’t touch.

In a brand new garden, in a bright new wood,
The wolves they howled as loud as they could,
As the snake led the people to the very special tree,
And hissed, ‘Help yourself, take a bite and see.’

In a brand new garden the people took a bite,
And in the distance a mouse took fright,
A cat gave a yelp and a dog gave a bark,
And the bright new wood seemed to go a little dark.

The people felt scared, things had gone wrong,
So they hid in the bushes all day long.
When evening came the Creator took a walk,
He was their friend and he’d come to talk.

‘We were here,’ said the people, ‘in the bright new wood.
When a snake came along and the snake wasn’t good.
He tricked us with his hissing and made things bad,
We got it wrong and now we feel sad.’

The snake hissed a chuckle when he saw what he’d done,
Tricking the people was such good fun,
The garden was fading, the wood had gone dim,
It was all his fault, it was down to him.

Then a lion roared and made everyone quake,
‘One day my son will crush that snake!’
The creator said, ‘He’ll change things for good,
And things will be better in this great bright wood.’
