Film Friday In the Irish movie The Spin, Dermot and Elvis are in dire straits and in danger of losing their record store. Then they spot a box of records on sale online. The box is going cheap for £30 but they know these records are highly valuable and worth thousands. So they leap in their car and head off on a road trip to Cork. However, along the way they run out of fuel and money and it seems like their mission will fail. Along the way they had given a lift to a nun and they then find an envelope from her in their car. It contains some money and a thank you note, which says, ‘The kindness you give is the kindness you get’. And this shapes Elvis and Dermot for the rest of their trip.
Something similar happens in the film Les Misérables, when Jean Valjean is offered incredible kindness by a Bishop from whom he had stolen. That kindness goes on to shape Jean Valjean into a man of great compassion.
We never know what repercussions our acts of kindness will have for others, but the writer of the Hebrews assures us that these acts are an expression of worship, they are a part of our love for God. God is not unjust, we are told in Hebrews 6 v 10, he will not forget the love you have shown him as you help others. So keep on going, keep on caring today. Our God loves it when we show kindness.
