The Dragon Slayer

A huge figure appears on the horizon, blotting out the light and the sun. As he moves nearer fire belches from his mouth and smog leaks from his nostrils. Large and terrible, he takes one ground-shaking step after another. The Chaos Dragon has come into the land, and we run in fear, overshadowed by his hulking presence. We call out for a rescuer, a knight twice the size of the dragon. But  nothing happens. Then… a whisper on the breeze. The faintest sound. A gentle footstep, as the hero appears. So small. So slight. Surely the dragon will crush him in an instant. As the hero approaches we wonder if he will suddenly grow in size. But no. He remains small. And the dragon turns to engulf him in flames.

As the carnage lifts, as the smoke settles, something strange happens. The hero lies silent and still, but he has not been obliterated. And though he is smaller than the dragon, the light from him begins to grow. And the ground trembles as he lives again and sits up. And the dragon stumbles and steps back. Now the hero simply raises his head, his gaze clear and pure, and the creature tumbles and falls. And suddenly we realise, we can see the sun again, and the light has dawned once more.
