There was a group of friends, called Matthew, Mary, John, Susanna, Martha, Peter, Andrew, James, Joanna and others. They were friends… with Jesus. And now they needed his help. They were a bit scared, and confused.
So these friends got together to help other.
Suddenly there was a small sound of wind blowing.
And bit by bit the wind became a bit louder.
And then the wind becamereally loud.
And then it stopped!
And now they didn’t feel scared or confused.
And then they saw little, tiny fiery flames in the room. Flickering around them. Flickering just above their heads.
And then they found they could all speak in different languages.
So they went out into the street, no longer feeling scared and confused, and they started telling everyone about Jesus – in all these different languages!!
And everyone was amazed!!! Yes, really amazed!!! Really, really, really AMAZED. Because they had all come from different countries and they heard this group of friends talking in all their own languages.
And everyone said they wanted to know more about Jesus.
So the friends told them. In their own languages.
And that’s how the church started. It was called the Day of Pentecost and we think of it as the first birthday of the Christian church.
