For too long she has been a ghost. Empty. Transparent. People looking straight through her.
Unable to cross the divide into real life. Avoided. No longer alive.
No fault of her own. Nothing she has done to bring this change.
It’s all beyond her understanding. But now she is a distant figure. No longer part of life.
Then he comes to town. And there are whispers of hope all around.
Dare she try and reach him? Will he just look through here? See her as a ghost too?
She is terrified and yet reckless. One last try, one last stretch towards hope.
Her fingers connect with his robe, and instantly lightning courses through her.
Not striking her dead, but striking her alive. Now she must slip away, back to her distant life.
But no. He’s talking. About her. And he wants to see her. Not to look through her. Not to punish her.
Not to highlight how empty and lost she is. And suddenly she is looking in his eyes, and he is smiling.
And he sees her. Really sees her. And she is no longer invisible.
No longer shunned. Instead he welcomes her, warms her heart. And she is whole again.
She touched the edge of his robe, for she thought to herself, “If I can just touch his clothing, I will be healed.” Immediately the bleeding stopped, and she could feel that she had been healed!
