Everyday Man

Born in the middle of sheep, dung and mess,
Growing up surrounded by life’s joy and stress,
Learning how to use hammers and axes,
Earning a wage in the face of high taxes.
Eating and sleeping and hearing the tales
Of heroes gone by and saints strong and frail,
Knowing how hard it can be to get by,
This is the one who had come from on high.

Not living a life in luxury’s hand,
But out there with the poor of the land.
Blessing the ones who thought they were cursed,
Sharing his life with the wasted and worst.
And when he had given his love and his best,
They sent armed guards – put him under arrest,
And with slander and hatred, and a mountain of dross,
They took his life, on that hill, on that cross.

But this everyday man, who’d never done wrong,
Soon came back fighting, soon came back strong,
Having beaten death for you and for me,
He offers his life to set us both free.

If you've appreciated this, why not...
