In his book Blue Like Jazz, Don Miller once wrote that
he liked buying new things, because they made him feel new.
The prophet Isaiah, in chapter 55 of his book, once wrote,
‘Listen and I will tell you where to get food that is good for the soul.’
Food I guess that not only makes us feel new, but truly makes us new.
We all chase after things,
The advertising thrives on our longings,
Our hunger and thirst for true life.
‘Hey there!’ Isaiah calls to us,
‘All who are thirsty, come to the water!
Are you penniless? Don’t worry – come anyway – buy and eat!’
Food that satisfies amongst the distractions.
Food that brings hope and peace,
In the midst of the fretting and stress.
That old author Augustine once said,
‘God puts salt on our lips,
To make us thirst for him.’
In the midst of our fretting and chasing,
In the midst of our distractions and wrong turns,
In the midst of our buying and selling,
Be with us Lord, and let your voice,
Soothe, satisfy and sustain the longings of our soul.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
