Floordrobes

Some of us have floordrobes, don’t put our clothes away,
A scattering on the carpet, trousers, jumpers on display.
Pants and tights and shirts and vests and socks of every size,
Dungarees and denim jeans,  and things I just don’t recognise.

Leggings, jeggings, hoodies, and scarves you never wear,
Sunglasses, shorts and dresses and what’s that over there?
Not tidy, neat or ordered, don’t you dare put them away,
They’re ready when we need them, for tonight or the next day.

We have our spiritual floordrobes too, our clutter and our mess,
Our chaotic lives get spread about, we’re not always at our best.
Now, if you’re into floordrobes you can have one in the hall,
You can have one in the loo or kitchen, anywhere at all.

Our Christian floordrobes too, often sprawl and spread about,
The questions, hopes, doubts, and fears, and laughter spill on out.
God knows that we’re untidy, he knows we make a mess,
He’s well used to people with their clutter and distress.

He knows that we’re a muddle, that we all go up and down,
And he’s right alongside us in our every chuckle, every frown.
So next time there’s a heap, on a floordrobe big or small,
It can be a sign – that God is with you in it all.

If you've appreciated this, why not...
