Imagine the world as one small town and imagine a local boy going away for a while and then returning, his feet dusty, with grit and sand in the palms of his hands. And imagine him beginning to offer a whole new way forward, not by judging or preaching at people, but by telling stories and making friends. And listening to those who no one else would listen to, and sitting down with those who no one else would sit down with. Unafraid of criticism or losing followers who didn’t understand him. Unafraid of the authorities who might come down upon him like a ton of bricks. And imagine that young man giving all that he had in order to bring meaning and purpose, and direction and peace. Forgiveness and a forever future. And imagine other people trying to manipulate him and steer him and make him what they wanted him to be, but unable to do that. And so in the end imagine those who were against him disposing of him. Destroying him. Getting rid of him because he was too unsettling, too disruptive to their plans, and their way of thinking. And imagine that man then reappearing – shockingly, startlingly, unexpectedly. Imagine him overcoming the greatest obstacle of all and in doing so offering a whole new way of living, a whole new of being, a whole new road to follow. Imagine that.
