This movie tells the tale of a successful screenwriter called Jack, who is offered the chance to write a hit film with the help of AI – artificial intelligence. Cautiously he takes up the offer and finds himself writing another hit. However the experience makes him question his own ability and it’s not long before he is struggling to write something on his own. Meanwhile his son, wishing to be like his dad, writes a short story about a land where all the creatures can talk, except for a small bird who felt lost because he couldn’t sing. A telling allegory about the struggles his father seems to be facing.
Creativity is a great gift from a creative God. A God who imagined a whole universe into being. Jesus demonstrated this with his layered, memorable and engaging stories. He knew how to deliver the kind of truth that could set people free in a way that they could easily remember and pass onto others. Tales about an extraordinarily loving father, about a forgiving and generous king, along with stories of compassion, seed sowing and building our lives on reliable foundations. These tales are all about how to live with Jesus in our lives. In 1 Corinthians 2 v 9 Paul writes this – ‘No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived of the good things God that has prepared for those who love him.’ This reminds me of the great imagination of God, much broader and deeper than our imaginations.
Lord, help us please to set our minds on you, and to be open to your ways which are higher and broader and deeper than we can ever imagine, in Jesus name, amen.
