Wednesday Riff: The Former Things

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.
But it’s not that easy Lord, some of us don’t want to let go of the former things
Some of us can’t let go
And for some of us times were so much better back then.

Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.
Lord, some of us want to let go, but others won’t let us
For some of us those were the glory days and the flowers have long-since faded
And some of us have lost our way and no longer have the strength.

I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Some of us look at these promises like children gazing through shop windows
Our noses pressed to the glass, longing and hoping
Desperate for a new thing, for a way through this wilderness.

I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
Some of us have been in this desert so long it’s starting to look like home
We’ve forgotten we’re travellers
We swapped our tents for mobile homes, and our mobile homes for bricks and mortar.

Today is a new day, a voice whispers
A still small voice calls amidst the thunder
I am the God of I am. The God of now. Present in the present.
I will help you take the steps you need today, in order to move towards tomorrow.
Do not remember the former things, or consider the things of old.
I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.
I am about to do a new thing, do you perceive it?

If you've appreciated this, why not...
