Wednesday Riff: Credentials

When the prodigal came limping home
He had all the wrong credentials
Jacob, all those years ago
Had returned rich and successful
With a large family to show off
The right kind of credentials
The prodigal was poor
Dirty, smelling bad
Broke, and broken
All the wrong credentials
And yet…
God was on his side
The good father waiting
With a welcome
A party and a future
We may often limp home
With all the wrong credentials
Not looking right
Not feeling right
Not believing right
And there he is again
The good father waiting
With a welcome and a warm smile
A new start.

If you've appreciated this, why not...
