Monday Rewrite: Longing

We long for you Lord,
Our prayers rise up,
Spoken and unspoken.

Like something broken longing to be mended,
Like bad news longing for good,
Like discordant noise longing for silence,
Like gnawing hunger longing to be fed.

We long for you Lord,
Our prayers rise up,
Spoken and unspoken.

Like a war zone longing for peace,
Like a bitter argument longing to be resolved,
Like a poisonous wound longing for healing,
Like a locked door longing for the key.

We long for you Lord,
Our prayers rise up,
Spoken and unspoken.

Like a question longing to be answered,
Like a puzzle longing to be solved,
Like the unloved longing for love,
Like the rejected longing for acceptance.

We long for you Lord,
Our prayers rise up,
Spoken and unspoken.

Like the powerless longing for justice,
Like the disappointed longing for another life,
Like the prodigal a long way from home,
Like the father waiting at the open gate.

We long for you Lord,
Our prayers rise up,
Spoken and unspoken.

If you've appreciated this, why not...
