A Prayer based on the Armour of God from Ephesians 6.
As we pray together, each time you hear the words below in bold, please do the following:
Truth – put your hand on your waist; Salvation – put your hand on your head;
Righteousness and justice – put your hand on your chest; Peace – put your hand on your feet;
Faith – put your hand on your arm; Your Holy Spirit – make a fist as if holding a sword
Lord, thank you that you don’t leave us to struggle along alone,
Thank you for the gifts and tools you give us to live for you:
Truth, salvation, righteousness and justice, peace, faith and the presence of your Holy Spirit,
Today we think of this armour of hope, this armour of faith and compassion:
The belt of truth, the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness and justice, the shoes of peace, the shield of faith and the sword of the presence of your Holy Spirit, which is the word of God.
Your presence and help with us in all we do, everywhere we go.
And so, like someone preparing to go on a rescue mission,
We take up these things:
Truth, salvation, righteousness and justice, peace, faith and the presence of your Holy Spirit,
We choose these things, not because they are popular, or will bring us fame, or make us great,
But because Jesus took up these things, and he invites us to follow him, and to walk in his footsteps. It’s not always easy to do that, so we need your help, we need these things:
Truth, when honesty is need,
salvation, thank you for giving your precious son Jesus to rescue us,
righteousness and justice, so that we can stand up for what is right,
peace, when we feel worried, frightened or are tempted to join in with things that cause trouble,
faith, when we struggle to keep believing,
and the presence of your Holy Spirit, so that we can do things with your help, not just on our own.
Thank you Lord for these things, we take them up today and each day, in the precious name of your son Jesus,
Amen.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
