Monday Riff: Your Song

Your song is eternal.
Not brash or abrasive,
Not self-seeking or proving a point,
Not a passing fad or fleeting trend.
Your song is stronger, gentler,
Kinder, more courageous,
Inclusive and welcoming,
And made of the smaller, precious,
Incomplete songs we offer to you.
You take what we have,
Arrange it, translate it,
Appreciate and treasure it.
Whatever the style or the volume,
The length or the eloquence.
You take our songs and make them yours.
And invite us to join you,
In that eternal, beautiful noise.
However we feel,
However competent we may be,
You call us out
To sing with you.
