So many of us need that light,
Glimpse it then lose sight again.
Need it to get through,
To keep going,
To know that Christmas is not merely
The glitter and shopping.
To know that this light is
Like no other,
To know that this light
Will lead somewhere.
So much darkness,
So much need of light,
And of strength and purpose,
Of healing and hope.
The people who walk in darkness
Have seen a great light,
A light that will shine on all
Who live in a land
Where death and despair,
Cynicism and blame,
Cast their long shadows.
