Wednesday Riff: Noise

There are times when the sound of love
Is drowned out by the noise of hatred.
When the sound of hope is drowned
By the noise of fear.
When welcome is marred
By the jarring cacophony of ‘us and them’.
Joy swallowed up
In the disturbance of despair,
Acceptance suppressed
By the cruel whine of rejection.
These noises are powerful at times,
But these other sounds, less boisterous,
Less cool, less newsworthy,
Still go on.
Held carefully in the hands and minds,
Hearts and faces
Of those wishing to rattle the cages
And rock the boats of hostility
Unfairness and injustice.
The small vital people,
Changing the world quietly
One smile at a time.

If you've appreciated this, why not...
