The enigma of his going away,
Melting from this dimension to another,
Leaving so that he can be with us.
No longer occupying a single space,
But in departing is present the world over.
Astride lands and oceans,
Friends and enemies, the in and the out,
Those who think they know everything,
And those who know they don’t.
No boundaries or walls or laws or fences,
The gates are open now.
His presence with us all,
His image set in his flawed and ragged people.
A world-wide-web of tumbling grace,
Prevalent in the hands and smiles,
In the patient, gentle and courageous,
The unspoken love offered for unspoken pain,
The secret compassion that recognises secret wounds.
Him in us, us in him,
The enigmatic gift.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
