What if the wise men
Had not conferred before setting off?
Before packing their bags and
Saddling up in search of the starry king.
Had not compared their presents.
‘I thought you were bringing gold.’
‘I thought you were! And where’s the myrrh?’
Oh dear.
They have gone down in history for their gifts,
But perhaps more importantly,
The three made the journey,
Brought themselves, left their comfort zones,
And sought out the child of promise.
Whatever our gifts I’m sure,
We can bring them, today and each day,
As we make the regular journey,
To the child, now grown up,
The son of righteousness, the Prince of Peace.
If you've appreciated this, why not...
