Philippians Too

He left the comfort and splendour of his home,
Trekked the muck-stained streets in human clothes,
Gave up his right to safety and adoration,
Took up a humble outfit and wore it kindly.
Followed a long and winding road,
Even though a cross ahead cast its long shadow,
And when he faced his lifelong dilemma
And would have loved to turn and find worldly success,
He shunned that and offered all he had,
All he was, all his strength and wisdom and love,
So that we could nail it up on a hill
High enough for the entire world to see.
And in doing this, in him becoming an unpleasant sight,
An embarrassment and a sign of abject failure,
Another kind of success reared its head,
Found in a garden just before dawn,
A new kind of success that call for us to look closely,
To pause and ponder the sound of a rumbling stone,
And the sight of an empty tomb.
The glorious discovery that the muck-stained streets,
Are now awash with light and comfort, strength and honour,
And the luminous footprints of a new king.
