Film Friday: Modern Parables

Having just completed a few days of speaking and using films to open up the theme of darkness and light, I’m struck again by the way these stories make great parables. In the film Free Guy, Guy has his eyes opened to a much bigger reality, one beyond what he can normally see. In Hacksaw Ridge, Desmond Doss lays his life on the line for his comrades, carrying them to safety, praying each time, ‘Lord help me save one more.’ In Chariots of Fire, Eric Liddell describes his skill of as an athlete as a gift from God, and one that that gives God pleasure when he runs.

So many moments which tap into life, into our lives. With Jesus we see life differently as he opens our eyes to a new dimension, a bigger reality; and as we do our best to bring hope and light, (not necessarily spectacular things, but small things that change the world one smile at a time) we act and we pray that we might make a positive difference. And like Eric Liddell we bring our gifts to God, whatever they may be, so that he can bless them, and draw pleasure from us using them and sharing them with others.

If you've appreciated this, why not...

Good stuff Dave. It is also important to reflect on Col 2:13-15. When our eyes are opened to the truth of the gospel we see the world in a new way (Psalm 19). We see Jesus in a new way but we also begin to recognise unseen spiritual powers that can take people captive (2 Tim 2:26).
