In this classic Christmas film George Bailey gets a glimpse of his town if he had never been around, seeing just how different things would be and he not been there to help and do the good things he has done. He get this glimpse after praying that he’d never been born, he is so desperate and unhappy he feels that his life is not worth anything. One of the great messages of the Bible is that our lives have tremendous value, and we are worth so much to God.
The Lord who created you says, ‘Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by name; you are mine.’ Isaiah 43 v 1.
Though we may often feel like throwing in the towel, God never gives up on us. And he loves us to be a part of the difference he is making in this world. You are a vital part of the song he is singing, the picture he is painting, the hope he is bringing. Without you and I these things are not complete. And though we may often wonder what we are doing, the encouragement comes to us to not give up. ‘…be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.’ Joshua 1 v 9
Lord, please use us today and tomorrow to bring your hope and help and blessing to the world and to others around us, even if we are not aware of it. Thank you, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
