Following Drama

An easy-to-perform sketch about following Jesus

You’ll need a narrator and a line of 3 to 8 people.

Hello everyone… I’m the narrator.
Hopefully the audience will say ‘Hello!’
And these are the first friends of Jesus.
A group of 3-8 friends come on. They stand in an untidy line. Some leaning on each other.
Say hello everyone.
They all say – ‘Hello everyone.’
Now here are some instructions that Jesus gave to his friends so they can go out and share his love with people. I have the instructions here. I’ll read them and you can do them.
First rule – always stand up straight.
The group suddenly stand up straight in a neat and tidy line.
Second rule – always speak in a posh accent.
The group all put on a posh voice and say – ‘Oh I say!’
Third rule – make sure you’re wearing clean underwear.
They look embarrassed, and turn away and pretend to check.
Fourth rule – you must know all the answers to any difficult questions.
They scratch their heads, look confused and say ‘Errrr…’
Fifth rule – you have to be super cool.
All brush hand through hair and put on sunglasses.
Sixth rule – you must be able to do 100 press ups.
All try and do press ups and collapse, gasping noisily.
Seventh rule – no matter how you are feeling you must ALWAYS wear a big cheesy smile – even when you are asleep.
All put on the biggest cheesiest grin.
Any questions?
One of the group, Mary, puts her hand up.
Yes Mary?
Mary says: Is that really what Jesus wants us to do?
Well, I do have some other ideas here. Drum roll please…
Encourage a drum roll from everyone.
One – Ask for his help.
Fall on knees hands together.
Two – Don’t worry if you don’t feel like much of a hero.
All make various hero poses. Except for one who just looks at the audience and shrugs.
Three – Ask for his help.
Fall on knees hands together.
Four – Read a Bible you can understand.
All mime opening Bibles and looking amazed.
Five – Ask for his help.
Fall on knees hands together.
Six – Care about other people.
Turn to each other and pat each other on the back.
Seven – Ask for his help.
Fall on knees hands together.
Eight – Share God’s love in the best way that only you can.
Two chat on phone, one person carries another, one gives another a hug etc
Sharing the love of Jesus is not always easy…
Some look scared, some look confused, some hide behind the others
But Jesus is always with us to help us, and so we can…
Actors all say to the audience – ‘Ask for his help.’
Well, that’s all for today. See you tomorrow. Say goodbye everyone.
Actors all wave and say ‘Goodbye everyone!’
